From Overwhelm to in Your Realm - How to Bring Your Pinterest Ideas into Reality
Do you head straight to Pinterest when you’re thinking of a new project and start to gather together ideas and inspiration?
Could you pin all the Pinterest pins forever but then you get overwhelm because you've now collected so many ideas and you don’t know where to start to begin your project?
Have you got a wedding Pinterest board but you’re finding it hard to see a running theme throughout your pins and it feels like a bit of a mess?
If you’re thinking yes and you love Pinterest but it’s time to start getting those ideas out into reality, I’ve brought together some ideas to help you take your vision board inspiration and bring yourself nearer to creating your styling project in the real world.

How to quickly find more pins you love rather than scrolling down your Home Feed forever more.
The temptation to scroll through Pinterest is a strong one, particularly if you’re standing in line at the Post Office or waiting for a friend to arrive for your day out together. But if you have a project in mind, whether it’s your wedding day or you’re upgrading your living room, sometimes it’s best to quickly get to the Pins that will really help you.
To instantly find more pins you know you’ll love, you can open up the Pinterest board for the current project you’re focusing on and find that one particular pin that really stands out at you. You may love the colour palette that’s going on, or there might be something about the styling that really catches your eye in this one particular pin. Click on this favourite pin and scroll down slightly and you’ll see a title saying ‘More Like This’. Here you’ll find lots more pins that are a similar vibe to the one you particularly love and you can find new pins here that are right up your street.
2. Do you really love the Pin or is it just currently in fashion?
It can be so easy to be distracted by a look that’s currently in fashion but in a couple of years it might not be that ‘timeless and classic’ look you’d been hoping to achieve.
To keep myself on the straight and narrow, and laser focused on bringing together a look I really know is something I truly love, I tend to pin with a mindset that: I’m sifting through to get my ultimate dream vision board or styling inspiration. Before I pin something I always ask myself, do I really love this or am I pinning this because it’s in fashion and a look I think I ‘should’ achieve? With this pinning gatekeeper mindset you’ll soon notice that your board will begin to look more and more like your dream wedding day or bedroom interiors.

3. Take a step back from your board and look at the overall theme.
When you’re looking through the board for your interiors project or upcoming wedding, it can get a bit foggy around what the actual theme and style is. If you’re struggling to put your finger on the elements and style that you want to achieve, you can take a step back and look at the board overall.
To do this, click into the particular board you're focusing on and there's a button on the right, straight above the images. It’s two horizontal lines each with a circle on. Click that button and you can choose to view the board as 'compact' and you'll see a lot more of your pins in one go. It’s like virtually stepping back from a painting and seeing the bigger picture.
4. Write down 3-6 themes that stand out on your Pinterest board.
I have a board all about my dream bedroom, you can take a look here if you like. If I take a step back from the board I can begin to notice common themes:
1. Big mirrors in gold frames
2. Rattan fronted wardrobes
3. Bolster pillows
4. Bedside tables with nice bits and bobs on
5. Framed prints with botanical leaves and florals
With these 5 themes written down I now have 5 things I can start to make as DIY projects or think about investing in ... and so the journey to the dream bedroom / interiors project / wedding style can begin!
There are the 4 ways that you can take your Pinterest inspiration and begin to draw it into motion. Some areas to focus on are: quickly find pins you love rather than having to scroll for ages, deciding if the pin is one that’s perfect for your style, take a step back to look at your board as a whole, and write down themes that are showing up regularly. Laser focusing your ideas so you can start to create what you want to achieve with your project, can help you get the ball rolling. Pinterest is an amazing tool for ideas but it’s also great to take that step from dreams and vision boards and bring those beautiful ideas into your reality.
