A Peek at the Making of the Greetings Card Collection
The Greetings Card Collection is here! It arrived fresh from the local printers in Brighton last week. I couldn’t take a look inside the bag when I went to pick them up from the printers, because it was pouring down when I went to collect them and I was scared the raindrops would find their way in. When I got home I was so excited to look through all the designs, the colours have come out more vibrant than I could’ve hoped for. The greetings cards are inspired by foliage and flower scenes and patterns with hand lettering and modern calligraphy thrown in for good measure too.
I wanted to give you a little peek behind the scenes at how some of the designs were made. Take a look below to see the beginning ideas sketched out in pencil, how the painting began to bring everything together and then the finished cards once all the digitalising was done on the laptop and they were printed.
If you’d like to browse the designs, each card title and image links through to my Etsy shop were you can take a look at that particular Greetings Card from the Collection.
Thank You Card
The Thank You card began with the hand lettering being sketched out in pencil and then painted with green and pink paint. This was a very therapeutic process! I then added a foliage pattern to the background of the card, inspired by Victorian floral wallpaper.
So Glad I Found You Card
The So Glad I Found You card is a little secret garden scene with a hidden garden doorway leading through to a wild flower field. I began by sketching out the design with pencil and making sure the bricks were evenly spaced. Then I added in the paint and had fun creating an old brick wall look with moss green on the brickwork. Once the design was scanned into the computer I then added in the wild flower field into the doorway and re-added in the modern calligraphy lettering.
Love You Meadow Card
The Love You meadow card was inspired by trips to National Trust gardens in Summer. It’s such a peaceful weekend thing to do. I wanted to include flowers native to the UK in Summer so in this painted meadow you’ll find foxgloves, hollyhocks, daisies, blue cornflowers, poppies and tiny plum coloured scabiosa in the background. I pencil drew the flowers and grasses first and then added colour when it came to the painting stage. On the laptop I added the bold blue LOVE YOU hand lettering onto the meadow scene.
I hope these cards provide you with a way to send your thoughts to your loved ones from afar. They’re each inspired by nature and the great outdoors and are all printed on recycled card with environmentally friendly envelopes too. The cards are printed at my local printers in Brighton and I walked down the hill to pick them up when they’re ready. It’s always an exciting moment when I get the email telling me the cards are ready for collection.
