Christmas this Year at Webb and Farrer
When I say this year at Webb and Farrer, I mean: me working from the office room in my flat next to Al who’s also working from home and having way more Zoom calls with colleagues than I am. The life of a solopreneur!
Christmas this year has seen the introduction of my new Paper Collection of Christmas Cards and Wall Prints.
For months and probably years now I’ve always wanted to create a hand-lettered collection of cards, posters and stationery but I’ve been putting it off because I didn’t have the time or I kept learning more about how to do it rather than creating the collection itself.
It’s possible I don’t hold a paint brush technically correctly but I’ve been loving dusting off my paints and getting back into the swing of things. My A Level art classes paid off and I’ve remembered how to mix up the colours which I find so fun.
Have you ever put a project off because you felt like you weren’t ready enough to get it off the ground? I’ve been in the same boat for ages but taking action and completing small tasks one day at a time meant all the steps added up and I could squeeze my eyes shut, press publish and get these cards and prints out there. There wasn’t one momentous change or move it was an amalgamation of lots of small tasks that I kept ticking off my to do list.
I’ve finally pushed myself beyond my comfort zone and made steps in the right direction and it feels like such a weight has lifted. I’m honestly blown away by how many of you have shopped from the Christmas Collection so far and each time an order alert comes through on the Etsy app on my phone I cheer.

My friend Sophie messaged me and asked how I decided which designs to do for the Paper Collection. So here’s the process...
I started by sketching out small designs with pencil and labelling the colours and themes for each look.
For some of the collection, the themes came from natural and botanical ideas and then the other designs in the collection were inspired by the calligraphy I’ve learnt over the past couple of years and my love of stars and kitsch at Christmas time.
In the next step I drew out the designs on big pieces of paper so I could get all the details in and go really swirly with the lettering.
Then I added paint and pen so all the colours came together and I chose which designs were off on their way to the scanners.
Then once they were scanned and on the computer I tidied the designs up and added the hand lettering and paintings together to create all the looks. I spelt mistletoe wrong the first time round so had to do that lettering all over again.
The Christmas Cards and Prints are all printed locally in Brighton, I then package them up in recycled tissue paper and eco friendly sleeves and take them to the post office.
And that’s the story behind this year’s Christmas Paper Collection. All the designs have been hand lettered, drawn and painted and I’ve loved creating these designs so much.
