How to Arrange Flowers in a Jug - Video Workshop
Would you love to gain confidence in arranging flowers? Do you love flowers but feel like you don’t know where to start when it comes to arranging them? Or would you love to learn how to make your own flower table centres for your wedding?
I’ve made an online flower workshop that’s perfect for you if you’re nodding along to any of the above.
In the flower workshop you’ll learn how to arrange flowers in a jug in a meadow style.
So find that jug at the back of the cupboard, it might be that one you use for gravy when you're pulling out the stops and making a fancy roast, it could be the jug you use twice a year and throw cucumber into and guess the Pimm's : lemonade ratio, or like me it'll be that jug you keep wooden spoons in by the hob.
Jugs are such simple vessels to arrange flowers in because they usually have a narrow top and slightly wider base which supports the flower stems.
I’ve created this video workshop on Skillshare and broken the class down into stages so you can learn online, in your own time frame, and get to grips with flower arranging in the comfort of your own kitchen - where you know you’re guaranteed your favourite mug and the good biscuits.
You can watch me chatting away on the video workshop and showing you how to arrange flowers like a pro over on Skillshare (if you haven't come across Skillshare yet, it's an online learning platform with lots of creative video tutorials).

What’s in the flower workshop?
In the video class I’ll show you how to choose your flowers, ways to prepare your flowers so they last longer and how to arrange the foliage and flowers in the jug so they mimic a meadow look. This project is great if you’re arranging flowers as a hobby, creating wedding flowers, putting together flowers for a party or even if you want to relax and find a creative way to use your hands and bring nature into your home all at once.
You’ll gain florist skills so next time you’re given flowers as a gift or pick some up from the shop, you’ll arrange them in water with confidence and you’ll also have the techniques to keep them lasting as long as possible.
Throughout the class you’ll learn:
florist conditioning skills
how to choose your colour palette
what the best flower sizes are for the arrangement
flower names
flower arranging
how to make flowers last longer
What are the benefits of flower arranging?
Taking the time to prepare flowers and place them in an arrangement is an act of mindfulness which is a soothing remedy for our busy lives. In this post on my blog all about the benefits of flowers, I talk about how flowers are so rewarding when we have a go at arranging them.
Your finished jug design will look beautiful on the kitchen table, as a centre piece at a dinner party and adds a relaxed countryside look indoors. Another way you can use the skills you’ll learn in the class is to arrange flowers in all sorts of vases and vessels you’ve got around your home. The same method applies to lots of other vases and vintage pots you might have in your cupboards or on display.
To get the most from this project, relax when you’re putting your design together and if your jug arrangement is more wild-look than you’d originally expected just pretend you wanted to go very rustic all along.
I filmed this workshop whilst we were in the midst of lockdown and wanted to make the class as stay home friendly as possible. I hope you find learning how to arrange flowers at your kitchen table relaxing and soothing. I really loved filming this class and there will be more coming soon. Including a workshop all about how to make a handtie bouquet where I’ll show you the techniques I use to create a wedding bouquet.
Please get in touch here if you’ve got any questions about the workshop.
