Homemade Paper Party Bunting Tutorial + Free Printable

Are you decorating for a party and looking to make your own bunting? Do you love the nostalgic and aesthetic look of paper party decorations and want to create your own paper decor?

I’ve created a party bunting printable for you that you can download and print for free. Then you can get creative with your party bunting with the simple tutorial below:

This paper bunting can be re-used over and over again. You can get creative and match it with your other party decor with the ribbon colour you use to thread the bunting and the paints you choose to decorate the bunting with.

If you’ve got a craft supplies box this tutorial is a great way to make paper bunting with paints and decorations you may already have.

You will need:

Scissors

Your free bunting printable - download yours here. I printed the bunting pages onto thick paper to stop the paper curling when I added paint.

Paints and a Paintbrush - I used watercolours

Hole Punch

String, twine, or ribbon for an extra luxurious look

Table cover for any messy painting

Step 1. Cut out your paper bunting and hole punch where the circles are on the printable. Recycle any of the paper trimmings.

Step 2. Now it’s time to add paint. You can splatter some on, or brush it on here and there for an ‘abstract’ look, especially if you don’t have time to be particular. I chose to use 3 colours: orange and blue in the background and then green for the leaves. You could use colours that link with the rest of the party colour palette.

Step 3. Next, take some string, twine or thin ribbon and thread your bunting together. Top tip - layout the spelling of the words before you start threading so you don’t get to the end and realise you missed out a letter in the middle. Nothing more frustrating!

When the time to decorate for the party arrives, tie up your bunting and celebrate. You can use this paper bunting again and again, keep it stored with your party decor supplies to bring you joy each time there’s a birthday party.

You’ll notice that the party bunting printable has lots of other bunting styles. I hope you get to use the bunting for celebrations all year round! There’s cobweb bunting for Halloween. Let’s Celebrate and Party Time bunting for all sorts of moments to throw a party like anniversaries and hen parties. And there’s a floral bunting you can use to decorate a bedroom with too.
