6 Steps to Fill a Golden Syrup Tin with Flowers
If you’re into baking and find yourself pouring out the final dollops of golden syrup into your batter mixture and wonder how you could use the tin for flowers, I’ve got a tutorial for you in this blog post. Which means now you can have flapjacks AND flowers, a combination of dreams.
These flower filled syrup tins look great lined up on the table for a dinner party, or scattered around a wedding venue to add florals to your cake table and guest tables.
Here's how to arrange flowers in a treacle or syrup tin in 6 steps...
1. Fill the clean syrup tin with fresh water and make sure it’s water tight and doesn’t leak.
2. When you cut the flower and foliage stems, make sure you cut them at an angle and put them straight into the water.
3. You can keep some of the stems of the flowers quite tall. See the tin as 1/3 of the height of the design, the flower height above that can be 2/3 of the arrangement. Arrange the flowers outwards from the tin, as well as upwards, to create a wider and more generously filled design.
4. Take off any leaves that may go below the water line in the tin, these cause bacterial build up in the water and reduce the lifespan of the cut flowers and foliage.
5. Fill any gaps in your arrangement with filler flowers or foliage. You can group similar flowers together to create more of an impact and use any longer fluffier flowers to draw the design outwards.
6. Change the water every couple of days to help the flowers last longer and keep checking that your tin is still watertight as it may begin to rust over time.
Have fun arranging your flowers in your tin! They're a handy way to take flowers to a friend's as a gift or to pop on the coffee table to add some casual flower glam to the lounge. I'd love to see what you've made so, tag me in your creation on Instagram @WebbandFarrer.
